Anthropic launches Claude Corps: US$150 million to train 1,000 AI Philanthropy Fellows

Anthropic officially launches Claude Corps, a national AI charity fellowship program across the United States, with an initial commitment of $150 million. The project will train 1,000 early-career Fellows, with an annual salary of US$85,000 plus benefits, and will be assigned to more than 400 non-profit organizations across the United States for 12 months of full-time offline service. The project is operated by a three-party collaboration between Anthropic, CodePath and Social Finance.

Anthropic believes that companies building transformational AI technology have a responsibility to ensure that its benefits are widely shared and to invest directly in the workforce who will endure the change. The dual goals of Claude Corps are: to provide non-profit organizations with practical AI tools and systems; and to allow Fellows to accumulate practical AI experience that is valuable for future career development.

Tripartite Cooperation Structure

• Anthropic: Funding projects, leading strategy, providing Claude’s expertise
• CodePath (the largest university computer science education provider in the United States): Serves as the official employer of Fellows and leads training during the Fellowship
• Social Finance (non-profit registered investment advisor): Responsible for measurement and evaluation, establishing long-term financial instruments to achieve project scale expansion

Fellow Experience

Fellows will receive several weeks of full-time training (online and offline) to learn how to use Claude effectively and learn about the nonprofit world. This is followed by a 10-month offline deployment at a selected nonprofit, working directly with organizational staff.

Strategic significance

Anthropic released Claude Corps at the same time as it released a policy framework on the impact of AI on jobs. If Claude Corps succeeds, it will lay the foundation for a model of "scaling AI benefits during large-scale economic changes."

Claude Corps is the AI ​​industry’s largest philanthropic fellowship program to date. At $150 million, 1,000 people, 400+ nonprofit organizations, and a "direct presence" rather than "remote support" model, Anthropic's serious commitment to AI's social impact is reflected. This has direct reference value for domestic AI companies: With the rapid improvement of AI capabilities, how can companies systematically invest in AI social welfare distribution?
