Figma Config 2026 Inventory: Comprehensive evolution of Make, Motion, Weave and Design Agent

Figma's annual design conference Config 2026 released a whole batch of new capabilities for "a more expressive canvas". Introducing Figma Make (from design to code), Figma Motion, Weave (creative workflow), shaders, generative plug-ins, and the expanded Figma Agent. CEO Dylan Field made an interesting judgment at the beginning: "AI has lowered the threshold, but it has not raised the ceiling - designers and creators will raise the mountain."

Make’s new weapons: attribute panel and contextual annotation

On July 31, Figma further launched the Properties panel and Annotations functions in Make. Creators can select any element and adjust it directly in the properties panel, or drive modifications in natural language through in-context prompts - this means that "changing designs by speaking" begins to move from demonstrations to daily life.

The 2026 AI report (Can AI help us collaborate better?) released at the same time makes a key observation: AI has shifted from "single-person behavior" to "collaborative behavior". The upgrade of Design Agent also follows this direction: it supports custom tools, real context and Skills to help users produce results on the canvas that are more in line with their personal style.

What does "AI lower the threshold but not raise the ceiling" mean

From an industry perspective, Dylan Field's words are actually pouring cold water on the anxiety that "AI will replace designers", and at the same time delineating new responsibilities for design tools: AI is responsible for lowering the threshold, and the tools are responsible for allowing designers to continue creating above the ceiling. All of Figma's new actions—Make to open up code, Motion to introduce dynamic effects, Weave to orchestrate workflows, and Agent to undertake collaboration—are all making a fuss between the "threshold" and the "ceiling".

For domestic design tools, this combination of Figma is worthy of comparison: when the link of "design → code" is opened by Make, the definition of "design tool" is being rewritten as "AI infrastructure between design and development." Whoever can occupy a position on this link will control the entrance to the next generation of design collaboration.
